Under the Ministry of Finance’s (MoF) direction, the semi-autonomous Centre for Financial Inclusion (CFI) is in charge of spearheading the nation’s execution of the Financial Inclusion Agenda. ensuring the growth of awareness and sensitization, the involvement of all relevant parties, the alignment of the business and financial policy environment, research and development, and the tracking of the effects of the Agenda’s implementation on the fight against poverty. Create and maintain the systems that will allow the Agenda to be implemented throughout time.

Services of the Centre for Financial Inclusion

  • Deepening Financial Inclusion– The CFI is in charge of fostering an environment that makes it easier for MSMEs and individuals to obtain financing by improving their knowledge of finance and business management, growing a thriving and sustainable microfinance industry, and setting up the right information platforms to help with loan approval decision-making.
  • SME Business Clusters Value Chain Information– Business Cluster Surveys are a tool used by the CFI to gather data on the productivity, profitability, and concentration of MSMEs. The SME Business Cluster Value Chain Information operationalizes the Value Chain Information into platforms that are easily accessible by all the value chain actors (e.g. producers, market outlets, financial institutions, input suppliers and business service providers), and offers comprehensive business information on farm and off-farm business cluster commodities. It also supports the development of the value chain approach initiative.
  • Business & Personal Finance Clinics– In order to foster and provide practical instruction and guidance on running small businesses as well as managing personal finances, the CFI conducts Business and Personal Finance Clinics targeted at MSMEs and individuals. The CFI uses the Business Clinics Framework to identify entrepreneurs who are ready for finance and connects them with the financial institutions.
  • Development of an enabling policy and regulatory environment– The CFI, to increase the financial outreach and depth to the financial inclusion target clientele collaborates closely with the policy-makers, the financial regulators and the financial services providers to identify key constraining issues and facilitates appropriate reforms..
